Derwent Shetland Sheep - Exquisite & Strong
The Derwent Flock breed beautiful pedigree shetland sheep in the heart of the Lake District, breeding for conformation and exquisite fleece quality. The flock have won many championships at shows in the North of England and Scotland. The ewes and rams not only have wool that feels amazing to touch, but also exhibit the wonderful, natural, range of colours that Shetland sheep are so famous for.
We have approximately 100 pedigree ewes in a wide variety colours and markings, but only breed around 50 pure. The rest are used commercially on the farm to breed shetland mules for replacement breeding ewes on the farm and quality prime and store lambs for the local market. We run on between 20 - 30 shearling ewes and have between 5 - 10 active breeding rams.
Our flock of these beautiful primitive sheep began as a hobby in 2007 with the purchase of a mixture of registered and unregistered Shetland ewes and lambs from a farm dispersal. These initially ran with the commercial flock on the farm, producing some fantastic Shetland mules.
From 2007 to 2011 though, the Shetland flock expanded with the purchase of some beautiful registered ewes and lambs. Then, in the Autumn of 2011, Todhill Singleton was purchased at the Rare and Minority Breed Sale at Carlisle and Derwent Shetlands was born.
We have had many great successes at shows around the UK and now enjoy helping other people fall in love with breed, provide high quality rams, starter flocks, fibre pets and conservation grazers.
